Leon J. Kostek

Leon J. Kostek, 77, of Florence, MA, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at the Hospice of the Fisher Home on May 25, 2025, with family by his side. Born Feb. 13, 1948, in Northampton, MA to the late Anthony and Lulu (Sadlowski) Kostek. Leon grew up in Hadley and was devoted to working on the family farm. Leon worked for the Town of Hadley, MA Highway and Water Department for most of his adult life and was adored by the townspeople for his dedication. Following his retirement, Leon spent quality time with his wife of 50 years, Sarajane Kostek, whom he married on July 13, 1974, and was a devoted, loving husband and caregiver up until his recent illness. Leon took pride in caring for their home, tending to their vegetable garden, making his specialty spaghetti sauce and goulash. He crafted handmade rocking horses for his grandchildren in his garage workshop and enjoyed tinkering with small engines and farm tractors. In their younger years, Leon and Sara enjoyed long walks around Look Park, relished the sights and smells of the beaches in Maine every summer and were avid movie goers. He was a kind and generous man who will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. He leaves behind his wife, Sarajane (LaPalme) Kostek, a stepson, Jeffrey Morin (Connie) of Manchester NH; two stepdaughters Ellen Bouthillette (Kevin) of Holyoke MA, and Lauri Laroche (Jim) of South Hadley MA; his brother Tony (Carol) Kostek of Hadley, MA; his sister, Arlene Kostek McGonagle of Providence, RI. Leon also leaves behind seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Caroline. There will be a calling hour on Friday June 6, 2025, from 10 AM – 11 AM at the DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME, 120 DAMON RD., NORTHAMPTON, MA. A prayer service will begin at 11 AM, in the funeral home followed by his burial in Spring Grove Cemetery, Florence, MA.
