Kenneth W. Corbett

June 16, 1964 - February 3, 2022

Kenneth William Corbett, 57, loving son, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, February 3rd, 2022. Kenny was born in Northampton on June 16, 1964 to Frances (née Cybulski) Merski and William Francis Corbett, Sr. He lived in western Massachusetts his entire life and was a devoted Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Nascar fan. Kenny was a quiet kid but very outgoing and friendly. Family and friends remember him for his empathy and desire to care for others. As a young boy, he spent a lot of time at Shriners hospital and was known for organizing wheelchair races and making all of the kids laugh. Once his bones and legs strengthened, he developed a love for sports and became a solid baseball player. He graduated from Smith Vocational Highschool in 1982 from the auto body department and was a member of the Junior ROTC. He worked in auto body shops for many years before starting his own landscaping business. His love for cars and vehicles was a big part of his life and he owned several scooters, including a beloved red Vespa that he drove all over western Mass. Kenny was an avid Nascar fan and he frequented tracks across the Northeast with his dad and friends. Kenny was most at peace when he was fishing. Alongside his brother, step-dad, friends, or often alone, he enjoyed saltwater, freshwater, and ice fishing. He would hop on his bike with his fishing rod and head down to the Mill River or Broad Brook, and also loved fishing off the coast of Cape Cod. Being near the water brought him great joy and he spent many wonderful days visiting the beaches of Florida with his mom and step-dad. Ken spent the last five years of his life at CareOne in Northampton after a long battle with brain cancer. His family is very grateful to the nurses and aides who cared for him and ultimately became his friends. Kenny loved his “tunes” and his care team made sure to have Rock 102 on the radio for him. A special thank you is extended to those who made his final days with his family as peaceful as possible and for giving him the gift of passing with dignity and grace. Ken leaves behind his mom Fran Merski and his step-dad John Merski of Florence, his father Bill Corbett and his step-mom Betty Burnham of Easthampton, and his three older siblings: Linda LaFlamme, Bill Corbett Jr. (and Betsy Poudrier), and Elaine Moczulewski. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Megan LaFlamme and her husband Dave Powell, Sean LaFlamme and his girlfriend Shelby Benoit, Seth and Greg Moczulewski, and Josh Corbett, as well as his step brothers Johnny and Eva Merski and Chris Merski. He was predeceased by his grandparents Jennie and Tony Cybulski and Fred and Helen Corbett. Goodnight, Kenny. Sleep well. Calling hours will be Saturday, February 12th from 10AM-12PM at the DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME of Northampton, followed by a Religious Service at 12PM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kenny’s name can be made to CareOne at Northampton Resident Activities Fund, 548 Elm Street, Northampton, MA 01060 or to Shriners Children's Hospital, 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA 01104.
