Stanley F. "Slug" Slysz Sr.

Stanley F. “Slug” Slysz Jr., 82, of Hatfield, passed away unexpectedly at Cooley Dickinson Hospital on Friday November 18, 2022. He was born in Northampton on January 16, 1940, to the late Stanley and Stella (Kumiega) Slysz Sr. He graduated from Smith Academy, where he excelled in all three sports: soccer, basketball, and baseball. Slug had worked at M&M & Consolidated Tobacco Company for over 20 Years, and at UMass as a Truck Driver for over 19 years before his retirement. He was on the volunteer Fire Department in Hatfield for several years, a member of the Lion’s Club, played in a pitch league, and was an avid gardener. Slug enjoyed playing the lottery and always prayed for that big win. If you drove by the house, you would always see Slug sitting on the front porch taking a cat nap or just watching the squirrels, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Stanley is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Roberta (Zack) Slysz, his daughters, Annette St. Hilaire and her husband Bruce of Easthampton, Melissa Walsh and her husband Jeffrey of Northampton, daughter-in-law Bonnie Slysz of Easthampton his grandchildren, Jennifer, Samantha, Bruce Jr., Ryan, Danielle, Jason and his wife Anne, Michelle and her husband Amedeo, and Tyler, 12 great-grandchildren, his brothers, William and Richard both of Hatfield, his sister, Maureen Weeks of Hatfield, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his son Stanley III, his brother, Robert, his sister Darleen, brother-in-law Greg Weeks, and his mother and father-in-law, Helen and John Zack. Calling hours will be Monday November 21, 2022, from 4-6 PM at the DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME, 120 Damon Rd., Northampton. Funeral will be on Tuesday November 22, 2022, in the Funeral Home at 9 AM followed by a Prayer Service to begin at 10 AM. Burial will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery, Hatfield.
