Stanley Dunny

Northampton – Dr. Stanley Dunny, 83, of Northampton, Professor of Organic Chemistry, passed away on Friday, July 7th at Linda Manor Extended Care Facility, surrounded by his two loving nieces, Lisa LeBlanc, and Lori Thurston. He was born on August 2, 1939, in Northampton, to the late George and Sophie (Watras) Dunny. Stanley was a graduate of Northampton High School and received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Purdue University. He had worked for many years as a Professor at Holyoke Community College before his retirement. Stanley enjoyed traveling to Aruba and Barbados, and especially spending time with his family, where they would all gather at Point O’Woods and rent cottages. Stanley found a passionate love in horse racing and enjoyed great success on the racetrack at Saratoga. He had a deep appreciation for chemistry and treasured all of the students he taught. He was lucky to have a huge extended family, he is survived by his brothers, Edward and David, his sisters, Patricia Jaffe, and Joan Mazur, his nieces and nephews, Alison Bushey, Eric Conz, Heidi Friedman, Pia Conz, Pete Conz, Andy Sector, Erin O’Brien, Shawneen Hambrock, Edward Mazur, Lisa Mazur LaBlanc, Larry Jones Jr., Lori Jones Thurston, and several great nieces and great nephews, and dear friends through life, Tom Growhowski, and Richard Szlosek. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Phyllis Conz, Elizabeth “Betty” O’Brien, Alice Sector and Nancy Jones. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Linda Manor for their loving care they gave to Stanley. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 12th from 4-6 PM at the DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME OF NORTHAMPTON. Funeral will be Thursday, July 13th from 10 AM in the funeral home with a prayer service to begin at 11AM. Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Northampton.
